If you have experience with moving then you probably experienced a dented fridge, broken chair or maybe scratched leather sofa. You saved so much money to buy your furniture and in once instance they got damaged. All of this could have been preventable if the appliances and furniture were protected properly. If this happened to you like it did me don’t feel too bad because most people don’t know how to protect their things safely. Your furniture and other things can get damaged in so many ways because during transport they are exposed in so many ways. The only way to protect them properly is to cover them with moving blankets.
Using moving blankets to protect your appliances must be done correctly however. The first step is to remove the legs from your oven, fridge, washing machine, dish washer and whatever other appliance you might have. Your next step is secure the inside of the appliances and you’ll do this by removing anything loose like racks or compartment. They can get easily break while moving so make sure to secure them properly. The type of moving blanket you want to use to cover a fridge is a very thick one. Fridges are very susceptible to getting banged up and dented during transport. Ovens are also likely to get damaged also and if the door or lid is made from glass then you have to take extra precautions. Moving blankets should be the outer layer of protection. Underneath you should secure the oven door and lid by using blocks of styrofoam between the glass and cardboard boxes that will be between the oven door and lid and the moving blanket.
Protecting most furniture will be straightforward as long as you remove inside loose shelves and tape shut any cabinet doors. What’s most important is to make sure that the moving blankets won’t slip out. You can secure them tightly in two ways one is the use of the ropes and the second is tape, preferably a heavy utility tape. If you use the right moving blankets in addition to securing them the right way then your appliances and furniture most protected. If your concern is the cost or using many moving blankets then buying them in bulk might be the smart thing to do.
