My Experience With Furniture Moving Blankets

Several months ago I moved from Chicago to New York City. It was a big move for me because I took all of my things with me. Before moving I called several moving companies and each one of them quoted me a price that was astronomical, a fortune to say the least. So I did my research and moving blankets came up often.

My bedroom consisted of a queen size bed, dresser and drawer chest. Each piece of furniture was pretty big and certainly there weren’t boxes big enough to fit them in. Furniture moving blankets helped me in this regard, I purchased a dozen and used them to cover my bedroom set. I also used masking tape and rope to make sure everything was nice and tight.

Some of the other things around the house I simply put in boxes. I also have a large mirror and what I did it to protect it was use styrofoam, cardboard and a moving blanket. You’ll have to read my e-book to see how I managed to do that. I am kidding, I used the thick chunks of styrofoam to protect the actual mirror(glass) on both sides. The styrofoam served as a barrier. Then I used the cardboard on both sides with the styrofoam between the glass and cardboard. I then wrapped everything up with a moving blanket.

I arrived with my rental moving truck in NYC with all my furniture and belongings intact and in the same condition as before the move. Moving blankets played a big role in the move and they certainly prevented my things from being damaged. A big move actually requires every option there. Some Styrofoam, some boxes and  I can not put enough emphasis on how important moving blankets are.

So my 2 cents is to handle each item separately and by that I mean if the covering and handling should be sufficient. The furniture moving blankets I bought were perfect for me but I certainly couldn’t have used them for my TV. I used other means for my entertainment center but for the larger fixtures and furniture I did use moving blankets.
